Can you tell us a bit about the company’s history and its roster? Secretly Group is a leading independently owned recorded music company. Secretly’s major divisions include Secretly Canadian, Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar, and The Numero Group. Secretly Group is headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana, with offices in Brooklyn, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Berlin

Founded in 1996, Secretly Canadian counts Jens Lekman, Whitney, The War On Drugs, the catalogue of Jason Molina amongst its roster. Jagjaguwar was also founded in 1996 and merged operations with Secretly Canadian in 1999. The label’s present roster includes Bon Iver, Dinosaur Jr., Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Meanwhile, Dead Oceans was founded in 2007 by the owners of Jagjaguwar and Secretly Canadian with Austin-based Phil Waldorf. It is the current home to Mitski, Ryley Walker, Kevin Morby, Phosphorescent, Slowdive and The Tallest Man On Earth. The Numero Group was established by Tom Lunt, Rob Sevier, and Ken Shipley in 2003. It became a part of Secretly in 2013 when company partners Ben Swanson, Chris Swanson and Darius Van Arman bought a stake in the reissue specialist and brought it into the Secretly family.

– and a bit about the acts you personally work with at this moment? In 2018, we’ve put out records by Shame, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Marlon Williams, Suuns, Preoccupations, S Carey, Durand Jones and the Indications, Joey Dosik, Makeness and have records coming soon by A Place to Bury Strangers, Cut Worms, Damien Jurado, Ryley Walker, serpentwithfeet and Laura Marling’s new band LUMP along with many more!

What are your favorite Danish acts? Piss Vortex, Halshug, Yung.

Best show you’ve ever seen hands down? That is too difficult to answer, so I’ll say that the most important show for me was watching Superchunk in 1993 in Bristol opening for Teenage Fanclub.
