From us at Music Export Denmark we would like to wish all of our artists, industry, partners and friends the best for this new year, as well as thank you all for your unconditional collaboration, hard work and undeniable resilience. 2022 is bound to be break the patterns of the last two years and we are really excited to see what the year holds for Danish artists and music.

One of the best things that comes along with the new year is being able to jump right into high gear with export of the best newcomer acts from Denmark, when they take over Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival.
The festival will be held digitally once again this year, which really makes us miss the coziness of Gronningen, its venues, its hotel boats and great atmosphere, but we are already looking forward to check the delegates list to find so many of our contacts and partners from all over the world ready to meet, network, and experience with us some of the most interesting emerging European talents, all from the comfort of our home.

Please remember that the Danish industry can apply for support, on usual MXD terms, to purchase delegate passes for the festival.

From Denmark, we are happy to be represented by six great artists at this year’s festival, hand picked by the Eurosonic bookers throughout the fall. Its a diverse and stunning line up that really reflects how much strong young talent is currently bubbling up locally on the different scenes:

IVAN$ITO is one of the hottest new names in Denmark, despite singing in Spanish and music that is reminiscent of Bad Bunny and J Balvin – but with a Nordic twist. His 2020 debut album ‘Everything Is Reggaeton’ cemented him as Denmark’s own reggaeton star. IVAN$ITO’s Chilean and Danish roots result in a skewed genre mix of Nordic melodies and Latin American reggaeton. Second album ‘$olo Memos’ came out in April 2021.

Clarissa Connelly is a Scottish/Danish artist based in Copenhagen. who was the first Dane to win the prestigious Hyundai Nordic Music Prize of 2021 with her album ‘The Voyager’. Its fresh and radiant atmosphere, full of wonder and enchantment with nature, straddles the structures and cadences of traditional Nordic folk music with abstract digital experimentation. She is currently recording a new album and planning a 2022 release.

Jada has, in a short time, grown to be the most promising name on the Danish music scene, captivating national and foreign media and fans with her honest and personal universe. In 2019 she released her critically acclaimed debut album ’I Cry A Lot’ and won the P3 talent award – the Danish equivalent of BBC Sound Of. Jada is a raw natural talent with the potential to become the next big Nordic artist in the footsteps of MØ and Lukas Graham.

Genre-welding Danish-Swedish quartet VOLA released their highly anticipated third album, ‘Witness’, in May 2021, via Mascot Records and hit the charts from the US to Germany. Formed in Copenhagen in 2006, inspired by bands such as Meshuggah, Opeth and Massive Attack, and now the Scandinavians are among the most exciting bands from Europe, their complex narratives blend with crushing riffs and sonic sophistication. Heavy/quiet and dark/light combine with elements of modern metal, progressive rock, electronica, and stadium-sized choruses.

In Yde in the Netherlands in 1897, the 2000 year-old body of a girl was found, remarkably preserved thanks to the acid in the peat. Her head was partly shaved and her chest and pelvis almost dissolved. That image has stayed with Danish artist Andrea Novel, inspiring her stage name Ydegirl, and also acting as something of a muse for her haunting chamber pop. As Ydegirl, she stages modern day r&b and pop elements in a Nordic baroque style, using classical instruments like clarinet, guitar and violin, alongside synthesizers and electronic drum patterns.

Since their debut-EP ‘Embrace the Future’ (2015), Copenhagen-duo GENTS has gained fans all over the world. Crooner Niels Fejrskov Juhl and soft-synth aficionado Theis Vesterløkke have gone from support slots and SPOT Festival to Roskilde, Reeperbahn and selling out shows internationally. GENTS have released albums in 2017 and 2019, both of which to international critical acclaim. Third album, ‘souvenir’, is to be released in February 2022 via Yachtvej / Sony Music, supported by an extensive European tour.
