How can a music attorney help performing artists, songwriters and producers find a record or publishing deal? What are the fundamental differences between deals in the US and the UK and how do we navigate through the ever-changing distribution of music and ability to penetrate outside markets more easily?

These are some of the topics that will be discussed at this SPOT+ panel involving some of the leading music attorneys working out of London and New York respectively.

Chloë Forsyth – Harbottle & Lewis LLP (UK) – is a Partner and head of the music department at Harbottle and Lewis LLP, with over 12 years’ experience advising on all aspects of music and music-related matters. She acts for a wide range of clients, including creatives (artists, writers, producers) and independent and major labels and publishers, advising on a broad range of agreements, including recording, publishing, live, merchandising, sponsorship and endorsement deals. She also provides advice for clients using or exploiting music in other industries such as film and TV, theatre and digital. The breadth of Chloe’s practice means she is perfectly placed to advise anyone who makes, acquires, exploits and/or uses music. Chloe’s clients include artists such as Simian Mobile Disco, Conor Maynard, Jamie Isaac, Nimmo and Honeyblood, producers James Ford and Joice, and businesses such as Universal Music.

David M. Jacobs – Partner at Grubman, Shire & Meiselas (US) – David is a hands-on music attorney based in New York, working in every facet of the music, media & entertainment business. Priding himself on adding as much value to his clients’ lives as possible, he is often responsible for the assembling of a great team around an artist throughout the territories of the world, comprised of management, label, publisher, publicist, agent, and every other type of worthwhile opportunity a young artist could need–while at all times ensuring they are building a long-term career and not just a flash in the pan.
