Title: Creative Coordinator

Based in: London

Can you tell us a bit about the company’s history and its roster? Beggars Music is completely focused on its writers and determinedly independent, administering its own rights in a full-service office backed with uniquely experienced management. We believe strongly that a publisher’s role is to add value to a writer’s life and career and that in order to do so we must remain at the forefront of developments in both technology and the industry itself.

Beggars Music was born in January 2010 to strengthen and expand the Beggars Group’s publishing interests.

We are extremely proud of our roster of artists and are uniquely placed to work in close partnership with some of the most exciting and innovative labels in the world; XL, 4AD, Matador, Rough Trade, Stolen Recordings and Young Turks.
Our roster comprises of just over 40 artists including Glass Animals, Sampha, Mica Levi, Snail Mail, Empress Of, and Alice Boman. Our newest signings are Gia Margaret and Westerman.

– and a bit about the acts you personally work with at this moment? I work very closely with Lokki, who is Drew McFarlane, also a member of Glass Animals. We spent 2018 working on his debut EP, Cirrhi, and I assisted him on everything from creating the photos and videos, to organising live shows, PR and radio plugging and pitching for sync. It is a project I’m very proud of!
I also worked closely with Alice Boman last year on helping her create a new visual look for her new singles, Dreams and End Of Time. I found a filmmaker, Aëla Labbe, who, along with Jeanne Lula Chauveau, did an incredible job on the two videos and new press photos. We also did a limited run of 7” vinyls for Dreams, we even had to assemble the sleeves with artwork in our office. DIY publishing!

What was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music? Since I discovered music really, I always just felt it was unattainable as a job, the music industry seems like a secret world to those outside it. Joining Beggars has been really eye-opening, people work very hard for their artists, that is what I love about it, everyone has a lot of ambition and drive.

Which acts are you looking forward to seeing on SPOT this year? I’m looking forward to seeing Ginne Marker, Shikoswe, Elisha, Chinah and Josephin Bovién.

Best show you’ve ever seen hands down? Patti Smith, Dublin, 2015
