SPOTlight 2014 part five
Asbjørn HæstrupThis weekend, we’re SPOTlighting some of the more than 350 foreign and 800 Danish music industry people attending SPOT Festival 2014. We’ve asked them a couple of questions and here are their answers:
Name: John Rogers, IS – Projekta
Hi John, is this your first time at SPOT Festival? No, I was here four years ago as well. So it’s my second.
Are you looking forward to watching any concerts in particular at the festival? Yeah, I’m looking forward to Farao and The Malpractice. I’m a big fan of The Malpractice.
Do you have a favorite Danish band? Yeah, I really like When Saints Go Machine and Sleep Party People. I like the more, sort of, artistic bands like those two
Name: Ollie Jacob, UK – Memphis Industries
Have you been to SPOT before? No, this is my first time. But I think it’s been brilliant so far.
Which concerts are you going to watch tonight (saturday night red.)? Farao and Ice Cream Cathedral for sure. I also watched Kill J, Chorus Grant and Choir of Young Believers yesterday.
Name: Stefan Facius, DK – Heartbeat
Have you been to SPOT before? Yeah, this is my 6th or 7th time I think.
Are you excited about any concerts later? Yeah, really excited for one of our bands, Go Go Berlin later. I’m also gonna watch The Eclectic Moniker if possible.
Do you have a favorite Danish band? It’s hard to answer. But at the moment I listen to Reptile Youth and WhoMadeWho.
Name: Martin Rintza, DK – Skandinavian
Is this your first time at SPOT? No, it’s my fourth.
Which concerts are you going to watch later? I’m gonna watch Mont Oliver for sure. Also Ice Cream Cathedral.
What’s your favorite Danish band? Schultz & Forever and Blaue Blume. I won’t say any of our own bands, it’s more proper that way.
Name: Jessica Tolf Vulpius, DK – Crunchy Frog
Have you been to SPOT before? Yeah, a bunch of times. This is my 11th or 12th time, I think.
Which concerts are you going to watch later? Besides The Malpractice, which is our band, I’m going to watch Psyched Up Janis, Less Win, Sleep Party People, Fossils, Ring Them Bells and Broke, I think.
What’s your favorite Danish band? Besides our own bands, I think MØ is an absolutely amazing artist. I also love Darkness Falls and When Saints Go Machine.
Name: Michelle Kambasha, UK – Secretly Label Group
Hi Michelle, is this your first time at SPOT festival? Yeah, it is. It’s been amazing so far.
Which concerts will you watch later? I’ll watch Iberia for sure. I watched Communions yesterday, which was really good.
Do you have a favorite Danish artist? Tomas Barfod is amazing. He’s signed to Secretly Canadian as well. I also really like MØ.
Name: Riyadh Drebika, US/NL – Sizzer Amsterdam
Is this your first time at SPOT Festival? Yeah, it is.
Which concerts are you going to watch at the festival? Solar, Blaue Blume, Iberia and Sleep Part people, for sure.
Do you have a favorite Danish band? Iceage!
Name: Dean Bryce, UK – Ninja Tune
Hi Dean, is this your first time at SPOT? Yeah, it is. It’s been great so far. Lots of interesting people and music.
Which concerts are you going to watch later? I’m going to check out The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. That should be really good.
What’s your favorite Danish band? Trentemøller is great. I also like When Saints Go Machine.
Name: Mike Harounoff, UK – Transgressive Records
Hey Mike, have you been to SPOT before? No, and I actually haven’t had that many experiences with Danish music. But after coming here I realized how much great music there is. You could say I was blind but now I see.
Are there any specific concerts that you’re planning to watch at the festival? I mostly just let myself tag along to the different concerts that people recommend. I think that that’s a more authentic experience. I’m a Yes man during this festival.
Do you have a favorite Danish band? Iceage is great. Also Communions and Broken Twin, whom I watched yesterday and she was incredible.
