In the weeks leading up to SPOT Festival 2025, we’ll be introducing you to the international industry professionals who have been invited to this year’s festival by Danish artists and music companies through MXD’s new invitation pool.

Here, you can meet:

Name: Nabil Ayers

Company: Beggars Group US

Title: President

Based in: New York

Can you tell us a bit about the company’s history and its roster?

Beggars will turn 49 this year! Comprised of 5 separate labels: 4AD, Rough Trade, XL, Matador & Young, who release a total of about 40 albums per year.

And can you tell us a bit about the acts you personally work with at this moment?

I ran 4AD US for 13 years where I worked closely with The National, Big Thief, Future Islands and others. Now as president of Beggars, I don’t technically work for one of the labels, so I’m less directly involved with artists.

What was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music?

When I was a kid I started noticing label logos on the back of records. I knew something was happening when I noticed that some of my favorite bands had the same logos on their records, and that’s how I started to learn what a label was.

Which acts are you looking forward to seeing this year at SPOT?

Hearing great music, meeting great people, sun, food.

Best show you’ve ever seen hands down?

Nirvana in April 1991 when they performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” live for the first time.
