In the weeks leading up to SPOT Festival 2025, we’ll be introducing you to the international industry professionals who have been invited to this year’s festival by Danish artists and music companies through MXD’s new invitation pool.

Here, you can meet:

Name: Tom Mehrtens

Company: SATELLITE414

Title: Head of Music & Entertainment

Based in: London

Can you tell us a bit about the company’s history and its roster?

We have been running for 7 years as SATELLITE414 (we were previously the entertainment division of Purple PR for 20 years prior) and we work with a large number of talent from the music, film, broadcasting and philanthropy sectors. We are around 75% music clients and the rest is split over the three other areas. Our music roster ranges from mainstream pop to heavy metal, EDM to classical and everything in between – the roster reflects our personal music tastes. We have a number of A list clients on our books and the majority of these we have worked with from their very first single – we love to grow and nurture talent from the very beginning.

And can you tell us a bit about the acts you personally work with at this moment?

My roster is an eclectic mix of clients but I predominantly work with female and/or queer artists with a pop leaning sound, however I make exceptions for projects that resonate with me on another level. My current roster ranges from established names such as Beyonce, Chappell Roan, Caroline Polachek and Rina Sawayama through to more emerging talent including Chloe Qisha, horsegiirL, Introspekt and f5ve. I also work with some non-music clients including activist and author Munroe Bergdorf and Queer Britain – the UK’s first and only LGBTQ+ museum.

What was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music?

In my internship back in 2011 I witnessed first hand the passion and protection that my boss had for is clients and that was when I knew I wanted to follow this career path in music PR. I wanted to be involved with artists from the very beginning and help them grow and achieve their goals.

Which acts are you looking forward to seeing this year at SPOT?

I’m excited to see Zoumer and a colleague of mine has recommended Sound of the Damned so I’m keen to check them out as well.

Best show you’ve ever seen hands down?

Beyonce’s Renaissance tour. It was like a show of 10 finales! At any point the show could have finished and I would have felt like I’d seen a full 90 mins. The way she paid homage to the queer roots of dance music and ballroom was so graceful and powerful as well.
