I ugerne op til SPOT Festival 2023 introducerer vi dig for de internationale branchepersoner, som danske artister og musikselskaber har inviteret til årets festival via MXDs nye invitationspulje (læs mere om denne her).

Her kan du møde:

Name: Arnaud Gimat

Company: Velvetica Music

Title: Sync Manager

Based in: Paris

Can you tell us a bit about the company’s history and its roster?

Velvetica Music is an independent music publishing company, founded 10 years ago as a publishing administrator for the main film producers in France. While furthering its expertise on music rights for audiovisual programs, Velvetica Music has also become one of main independent publishing administrators and sub-publishers in France, with a 12-person team dedicated to rights administration, income tracking, and sync representation.

And can you tell us a bit about the acts you personally work with at this moment?

As I am working as a sync manager I have to know perfectly well my back catalogue and I have to keep in mind every artist I work for at any time.
However, artists that have fresh releases are always a focus for us, that’s why Kleo (Tambourhinoceros) is one of our main focus right now, as well as Tomode (Riptide), and obviously PowerSolo (Crunchy Tunes) the kings of sync and their freshly released EP and upcoming album. But also School of X (Tambourhinoceros), even if their album was released two years ago, who remains an artist we pitch a lot.

What was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music?

It was not at a particular time, I think it always has been in my mind, on a subconscious level at least. I’ve studied economy and management, and ultimately at some point I wanted to connect it with something that really matters for me. And, what matters the most for me was music, obviously.

Which acts are you looking forward to seeing this year at SPOT?

First, artists from our partners of course. It’s really important to have a knowledge of live acts you work for. So, Rangleklods, Lucky Lo that I only have seen on an acoustic session, Sista Bossen and Tomode. But also Solbrud, Tender Youth and Niilas !

Best show you’ve ever seen hands down?

Best show I’ve seen in my life probably was A Place to Bury Strangers. I’ve seen them twice, once on a boat in Lille a few years back and once in Paris in a bigger venue. I’ve been in love with their live performances. They really know how to create a foggy, brutal and noisy atmosphere that makes each of their show a unique experience.
