Her kan du møde:

Name: Linnea Alvarez Jörgensen

Company: Republic of Music

Title: Label Manager

Based in: Brighton, England

Can you tell us a bit about the company’s history and its roster?

Republic of Music (ROM) was founded in January 2007 and was started to offer a new and exciting alternative to the existing independent music sales and distribution companies in the UK and Europe. We now offer flexible and dynamic deals for international physical and digital distribution for our customers and we can tailor our deals to suit the labels needs.
On top of that we also offer a full range of Label Services including project management, design (phone apps, iTunes LP’s, graphic design, flash banners etc), a sync department and a wide range of accountancy services.

We’ve both previously and currently work/ed with a diverse and cutting edge roster of labels such as City Slang, BMG Rights, Death Waltz Recording Company, !K7, Strut, Skint, M-Nus, Ram Records, Monkeytown, and 20-20 Vision, and many more.

Since launch Republic of Music have worked retail campaigns for such artists as Fleet Foxes, Two Door Cinema Club, You Me At Six, Neneh Cherry, Bloc Party, The Black Keys, Tame Impala, The Charlatans, Badly Drawn Boy, The Futureheads, Modeselektor, Midlake, Interpol, The Walkmen, Zola Jesus, Fatboy Slim, Freemasons, The Cribs, Lambchop, Mazzy Star, Gold Panda, Caribou, Beach House and many more.

And can you tell us a bit about the acts you personally work with at this moment?

I work with a mixture of acts from new and upcoming acts such as HUSSY and KID 2, to heritage acts like the Levellers, The Selecter, etc. I also work with bands and labels that represent a variety of genres, such as Ramrock records who do a lot of soul, blues, jazz, house, R’n’b, to Diggers Factory as well as Wagram in France that do a lot of soundtracks and best of compilations, to Good-To-Go who have a variety of artists on their roster of sub-labels such as Milky Chance, Ellen Allien, Clutch and many more. A couple of examples of campaigns I’m working closely on at the moment is the new album by Fatoumata Diawara that’s out 12th May 2023 and The Selector album Human Algebra which has just come out Friday 21st April 2023.

What was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music?

When I was 16 (2013) I traveled to Copenhagen to watch one of my favourite bands, Daughter, play a gig at the venue Vega. I completely fell in love with the whole production and process and since then started to volunteer at music festivals back home in Stockholm, as well as play some music myself. Once I started applying for universities I realised that I could actually pursue this passion as a career. I went on to study Music Business in Brighton, England and managed to get an internship as a label manager at RoM that has since become my full time job.

Which acts are you looking forward to seeing this year at SPOT?

Mainly the acts we work with – Lucky Lo & Rangleklods, but also Sei Selina, La Dame Blanche, Fräulein

Best show you’ve ever seen hands down?

I’ve got three as they’re in different stages of their musicianship
Beyonce @ Friends Arena in 2016 for The Formation World Tour
Seinabo Sey @ Globen Sthlm in 2018
Los Bitchos @ Mutations Festival in Brighton – Chalk Venue 2022
