Once again this year, we are inviting several key international industry professionals to attend SPOT Festival. All of them will be joining us at the MXD Superball @ RADAR as part of the SPOT+ programme, but until the festival kicks off on May 4th, we will be bringing you brief introductions to them, including where they come from, what companies they work for, what bands they want to check out at Spot, and much more. We look forward to seeing Vidhi Gandhi of Ninja Tune.

Name: Vidhi Gandhi

Company: Ninja Tune

Title: A&R Manager

Based in: London

Can you tell us a bit about the company’s history and roster?
Ninja Tune is an independent record label in the U.K. Founded 27 years ago by the duo known as Coldcut.

Our roster spans various genres to include bands and electronic artists such as Bonobo, The Cinematic Orchestra, Actress, Forest Swords and Romare to name a few. We also have imprints such as Big Dada, Counter and Technicolour.

– and a bit about the acts you personally work with at this moment?
I work closely with a British alternative artist called Laurel but involved with lots of others across the roster too.

What was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music?
Tough question. To be honest I don’t think there ever was a time I thought “right, I want to go into the music business” .. guess I fell into it by chance. I love writing and used to blog about bands in India back in the day- that was probably my way into the industry.

What are your favorite Danish acts and who are you looking forward to seeing at Spot Festival this year?
I like MILK. I’ve seen them twice now and they’re very fun live! I’m looking forward to checking out IRAH, Mono Mono and Sekuoia.

Best live show ever, hands down?
Tricky, I worked in live music for 9 years before getting into the recording side of things so there have been MANY!

Chilly Gonzales, Nils Frahm, Alt J, Patrick Watson and Bonobo, Junoon with Jonny Greenwood, Sun Ra Arkestra have all been very memorable.

I loved seeing Major Lazer tour India – the production and energy of their crew is insane.
